WE APPEAL EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE IN DISCUSSIONS;

Yes, when compared to discussions in WhatsApp/Telegram groups, participating in discussions in an open forum has more reach and benefit people greatly. These discussions are open to everybody and are indexed in search engines like google. It reaches more people including global audience. Your inputs reach a wide spectrum of people, and you create more impact.

As it is an open forum and has a wide range of audiences, your queries and thoughts will get views from different perspectives. It will be a rich experience when you get different perspectives from a wide variety of people on your query or thoughts. Isn’t it?

Every time a person search for a query in google or other search engines, it will take them directly to the answer over here if it has been discussed already here. It saves effort for everyone. The discussions in social media are not indexed by search engines and everything needs to be discussed over and again. They are counterproductive.

Weight Reduction Challenge

1
Hi all,
Overweight and obese individuals are prone to high-risk diseases like high blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers, joint problems etc. In our plant, nearly 40% of the employees are overweight or obese. Unless an intervention is carried out at this stage, the condition will worsen, increasing the morbidity and decreasing the productivity of employees.

Though everybody wants to be in good shape, many lack motivation. So we thought of throwing a challenge to employees to motivate them to stay healthy and fit.

We initially released 2 teasers to arouse curiosity in the minds of employees.

I provided them a customised diet chart considering their Basal Metabolic Rate(BMR), type of work and other factors. For this and follow-up, I developed an excel utility.

REVIEW & MOTIVATION

As per the challenge requirement, all the participants were supposed to come to health center every week for the next six months and measure their weight. Occupational Health Center staff would record their weight in the follow-up sheet.
We used to display the list of employees who reduced more than 2Kg weight in front of the canteen.

RESULT
By the end of six months, 115 employees could decrease their weight.
Highest weight reduced by an employee was 15Kg.
Total 5 employees reduced more than 10Kg of weight.
37 employees reduced more than 5 to10Kg and
remaining are ranging between 1 to 5Kg weight reduction.

Again, we did review their weight at one year of the announcement of the challenge. Around 90% of employees were either sustained their weight reduction or reduced further. We gave prizes to them on world health day celebration.

Now, they are the role models for others.

A great idea to encourage employees to lead healthier lifestyles is to introduce a health and fitness challenge for them. Here is how to organise and carry out the challenge.
Clear Your Goals: The challenge's objectives should be made very clear. Make sure staff members are aware of the significance of keeping a healthy weight and how it affects their general wellbeing.
Team Challenge: Take into account breaking the challenge up into teams. In addition to encouraging teamwork, this also offers peer support and encouragement, which makes it more interesting.
Health Evaluations: Start by having interested employees complete health evaluations. The measurement of body weight, BMI, blood pressure, and other important health indicators can be included in this. Set this as a baseline to monitor development.
